What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an Online Dating Expert. I help people succeed in the world of online dating. My client is anyone who is currently using or wants to use online dating to find a relationship.
Tell us about yourself
A career in medical device sales led me to 2 things- Online dating because I was too busy traveling and working to meet anyone organically, and health and wellness because I was always involved in the “fix” process of health versus the “prevent.” I utilized online dating on and off for years as I moved from being a device rep to a Holistic Health Coach and Pilates Instructor. I absolutely loved my online dating experience, but I quickly realized that I was the only one in my friend group who was going on quality dates with men that I was actually interested in. My friends would always ask me how I managed to have such great results, so I’d happily tell them how I approached online dating. I noticed a similar pattern taking shape with my health coaching clients. People were hiring me to lose weight, but I always ended up uncovering the important role that relationships play in a person’s overall wellness. As I started to see that so many people were struggling to find the types of relationships they were looking for online, the combination of my online dating strategy and the specific relationship piece of wellness simply made sense. I knew that an online program would be the best way to share my knowledge with the most people, so The Online Dating Results Method was created, and AmyHelt.com was born! I remember what it was like to fumble my way through online dating, and there was absolutely no one to help. That is not the case now. Each day I’m motivated by the opportunity to improve someone else’s life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was taking an idea and bringing it to life. Anyone who has ever had an idea knows that it is easier said than done.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is staying the course when things get tough. It is really hard not to bail when you get scared, especially when money is involved.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get clear about how you want to help people. Know what you love and, most importantly, what you don’t so you can make smart, focused decisions.
- Get out there. Act on your idea. Don’t wait for things to be perfect. There will always be roadblocks and people who project their own fear of following their purpose onto you. Keep moving. Just start where you are and grow from there.
- Stay the course. Not every idea will be a good one. Not every project or program will be a success. These are just opportunities and lessons that will help you build the profitable business that you want. Business ownership and growth is a long journey on a bumpy road in a Fred Flintstone car where literally anything is possible!
