What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a blogging business where I provide free baking content on my blog Amycakes Bakes. Amycakes Bakes provides professional bakery recipes and baking tips to readers who want to learn more about what it takes to become a professional baker.

Tell us about yourself

I loved running my small bakery, Amycakes Bakery, for over 11 years. Now I'm happy to have found a way to live my passion differently. Sharing all of my recipes online has allowed me to grow so much as an entrepreneur. It has been such an enriching experience to learn how to use different skills as a professional blogger that I wouldn't have known before. It's great to share what makes me happy with other people who also enjoy baking!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is turning my blog into a full-time job that supports me financially.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I have to make many daily decisions about where to place my focus. One of the most challenging parts of being a business owner is knowing when to clock out and leave unfinished work behind.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Read Profit First and The Pumpkin Plan by Mike Michalowicz. I still listen to these audiobooks on repeat for business inspiration and reminders.
  2. Follow your passions and pursue them with all of your might.
  3. Give yourself time to learn and succeed.
