Show Your Magic - Amy Zambonin Photography

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Zambonin, Founder of Amy Zambonin Photography, located in Ottawa, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work with joyful, growth-focused business owners who know that they have something to share with the world and are ready to do it! They know that how they do things is unique to them, that it matters, and that they can help others with it too. When you work with me, you get more than just a photo shoot. You get a cheerleader and a supporter. I'll teach you how to show up in a way that feels safe and authentic to you. And I'll definitely tell you what to do with your hands! Yes, I'm there to take the branding photos that you dream of, but I'm also there to help you get to that next place in your business that you want to go.

Tell us about yourself

I've been a photographer for the last ten years, but I really found my purpose in it a few years ago. Working with people who truly love what they do and want to share it in a way that feels good to them is my jam! The best part is getting to meet entrepreneurs, makers, artists, coaches, health and wellness and food folks, dreamers, and creatives! Learning more about them and why they do what they do is what lights me up. Getting to create images for them to use to grow is my favorite!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Feeling SO happy and confident in where I am in my business. I think we can be happy and confident and still grow and want to be in a different place a year from now. But I'm very proud of my business as a whole and how I use it to help other entrepreneurs' journey's as well.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The unpredictable, out-of-my-control things that come up. Especially with everything in the last three years and being a mom of two littles! You have to learn how to go with the flow, even when it's not flowing where you want, and that can be really challenging a lot of the time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stop putting it off - everything doesn't have to be perfect! Your logo is going to change eventually (that's a good thing, a sign of growth!), and your business name doesn't have to be permanent. Your website will always be a work in progress. JUST DO THE THING!
  2. Find some people you trust and respect who are a few steps ahead of you. Ask them lots of questions! Remember, there was a time when they didn't know the answers either.
  3. Don't get caught up in what everyone else is doing. Do your thing in a way that brings you joy! Even if it's not the way everyone else seems to be doing it.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

You're allowed to change direction or try something different. Nothing has to be permanent, and it's not a "failure" if you decide to move on! Don't put off your dreams - your life can't afford that.
