Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Arshad Bahl, founder, and CEO of Amrita Health Foods, located in Scarsdale, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We make delicious plant-based snacks that happen to be allergen-friendly.

Tell us about yourself

I love delighting people with delicious snacks that are clean, allergen-friendly, and sustainably made. We pride ourselves on being a minority-owned company with a strong social mission around autism and helping young adults on the spectrum with employment training.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing our products in 3000+ stores and opening our manufacturing facility a couple of years ago.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

COVID labor issues were the toughest issue I have had. Entrepreneurship is really difficult and a way to glamorize. You have to be 110% committed, which starts with the mission.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Check your ego at the door.
  2. Be ready to work harder than you ever have.
  3. Bootstrap and take smart money only as a last resort.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Businesses can make a profit and do good. You can stay small and focus on profitability. Eliminate, automate and delegate.
