HumanTalents Tech. Canada - Amr The Internet Guy

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amr The Internet Guy, CEO of HumanTalents Tech. Canada, located in Port Moody, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At HumanTalents Tech. Canada, we build, fix and maintain websites; our approach is simply "websites that work." Our customers are business owners who want to have a website that works for them and accurately represents their brand. I also work and partner with fellow web designers.

Tell us about yourself

I have been in Internet Technology since 2002 and have specialized in doing business online; this led me to teach web design and development to other professionals and work on the implementation of e-services and e-business in large organizations, including the implementation of various SaaS software applications. When I left the corporate world and decided to go solo, I wanted to utilize what I learned to benefit the owners of "small" and "medium" businesses, who often find it daunting not only to find or select the right technology but to make it work for them.

A website was a great segway to start helping those businesses and get them to achieve some success online. Then, bit by bit, they can move to automate some of their business processes and provide their customers with online services. I get motivated by "problems"! I love solving problems and helping my clients and partners, especially with Tech problems. It makes me feel like the doctor who takes away the "digital pain"!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I don't necessarily look at success as "big" or "small" for me; I like to progress, so it is the journey that matters. Those series of small steps and the continued transformation of the business is what I like the most.

Example: I went from directly helping business owners and building/maintaining their websites to helping fellow web designers with Tech. issues, and I started creating tutorials and courses to serve them. Today 80% of my clients are agency owners and web or graphic designers who consider me their "techie" partner and the go-to resource when they are faced with a technical problem in WordPress or Email.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The stress :-) Entrepreneurship isn't for the faint-hearted and can be very stressful with ups and downs.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't start a business just to make money. If money is your only goal, you will not have a sustainable business! Start a business to solve a problem and/or to help others.
  2. Go for progress, NOT perfection, and celebrate the wins no matter how small.
  3. Keep learning something new every day, even if it's small.
