What's your business, and who are your customers?
People love handmade organic wellness and clean beauty products that cater to sensitive skin. It's hard to find affordable clean beauty that actually solves difficult skin problems. Therefore, Amour Propre®️ was created to support our customers with luxury, clean beauty at an affordable price.
Amour Propre®️ is a wellness and beauty brand centered on self-love, enhanced by science, inspired by nature, and fueled by positive energy. Our handmade products nurture love from within. Our motto: Live in Love.
Tell us about yourself
I spent so many years of my life not feeling worthy of love. I worked on the outside of my being: face, hair, and body. I achieved success at work. I gathered many friends and admirers from networking, but I never felt my very own sense of self-worth.
I was able to work on my self-esteem and appreciate my self-worth in such a profound way that I became a life coach to support other people who may be going through similar challenges. Because of the pandemic, I was unable to continue in my service-oriented business focus. I found myself wanting to give back to my community with handmade products.
Amour Propre®️ started in March of 2020. I created the business to help others with their own self-care needs. I am motivated to continue to support people to find healthy self-esteem with simplicity: a handmade soap after a long day, an aromatherapy candle to set the mood, or a creamy lotion that makes the skin oh so soft!
I love that my customers feel the love that I put into each and every handmade product. We have sold over 6000 units in the last two years and look forward to scaling higher to reach more people every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I gathered all the ingredients I needed. I made $21,000 within the first month of my business launching. The money that I generated allowed me to purchase additional products to grow my brand into the over 180 products that I currently offer on my online store.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The Daily Grind of being a business owner can be difficult to balance. As a mother of four and a wife, oh, I am sometimes torn between time with my family and the work that needs to be done. I am grateful that I have such a supportive family that allows me to do the business at hand and also takes time to hang out with me and remind me of the importance of my downtime.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Go for it. Many people have great ideas about businesses they would like to start, but they don't start. They stay in the planning phases too long, or they hide so much that it becomes overwhelming to start. I believe in just starting and learning along the way. One of the keys to my success has never been being afraid to fail. I have made things that didn't work out and gone back to the drawing board to rework them. Failure in business is just an opportunity to restructure when you understand that you will be successful in business.
