Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aileen Edwards, Founder of AME Consulting, located in Frankford, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Leadership Coaching and Professional Human Resources Consulting. I help entrepreneurs and organizational people managers who are struggling to lead themselves and others. I coach and mentor them in a collaborative and supportive way, so they feel empowered to lead more effectively. I also help businesses succeed by providing strategic leadership in managing the organization's human resources. I partner with individuals and teams in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
Tell us about yourself
I am a certified coach and have over 30 years of experience as a Human Resources professional. I enjoy working with leaders collaboratively to create change. I have worked in both unionized and non-unionized environments. I love working with people to coach, mentor, and facilitate. I was introduced to the world of coaching, and it changed a lot for me, so now I am paying forward. I was able to see my real potential, and I want to assist others in seeing theirs by coaching them.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I've only been in business for two years, so making it this far was huge for me. I started my business in February 2020, then Covid happened, and everyone went home. I didn't know what to do, but by the end of 2020, the clients came back, and the business was off and running.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Knowing how to start and run a business. I'm an HR professional and coach, and I had no idea how to start a business. I just knew it was meant to be. I took the Covid downtime and used that time to learn a lot about what to do and what to charge for my services. I was charging way less than everyone else in the business but learned very quickly not to do myself a disservice. I have over 30 years of proven track record and am good at what I do. When it came to charging what I'm worth, asking was the hardest part.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Stay true to yourself and your goals. It's hard out there, but if you continue to work at it, things will begin to happen. Do something you love!! Waking up every day knowing I'm going to make a difference in someone's day is a fabulous feeling. I do not have sales or friends and family discounts; charge what your service is worth.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Count your blessings each and every day. Some days are harder than others but just keep with it. Trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
