What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is an organic and sustainable green-certified hair salon that serves the Santa Monica community. Our typical customer is a woman who colors their hair regularly and wants a low-toxic alternative to traditional hair color.
Tell us about yourself
I've been working in the hair industry for over 10 years, and being a leader of my salon and growing a business is something I enjoy doing. I also became a Certified Trichologist in 2022. I now take consultations to help diagnose and treat hair loss and scalp conditions. It really excites me to enter this new field and offer an entirely new and unique service to my community.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is having my second baby boy 4 months after I opened my business, and now 5 months after his birth, my business is thriving with a great team and happy customers.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing for me is there is never a day where I don't think about my business and how I can improve on it or that I'm fully responsible for anything that goes wrong, like when we had a flood in our bathroom and had to close for a week last fall to sort it out.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My top three tips for someone looking to start a business are to have a solid plan of action, get creative, and ask for help when you need it.
