Personal Growth Coach - Amanda Kirkland
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amanda Kirkland, coach and owner of Amanda Kirkland Coaching / Blu Consulting Inc., located in Toronto, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
A self-professed practitioner of self-care! A B.A.B.E. - Balanced, Authentic, B*tch Extraordinaire. I estranged myself from my parents and one sister almost ten years ago. Narcissists and toxic relationships used to surround me like a magnetic field.
Today my life is like 31 flavors of Baskin Robbin's ice cream. The younger version of me was obsessed with reading books and watching movies about the guilty – I wanted to be a Criminal Prosecutor/Crown Attorney (depending on what country you are living in). Turns out, I didn't have the grades or the stomach for it ... so I got into Real Estate Development… for a while.
Now, I'm a Personal Growth Coach, yoga-junkie, shopping-fiend to rival Julia Roberts, obsessive dog lover, and Style at Home wannabe Interior Designer. If you've never tried Coaching before... it changes everything. In a matter of months, in my own journey, I experienced more personal, physical, and mental shifts than in over twenty years of traditional talk therapy. I now help others learn to live (and love) their lives without "the problem" ("the shit") they've been experiencing for years (because that luggage is far too heavy!). If you've got the weight of the world on your shoulders - let me help lighten the load – let me help unpack some of that shit (or those problems) and lighten your load. I bet right now you're wondering, great, but what qualifies this chick (gal, lady, woman, person) to be a coach and help me unpack?
I have a Bachelor of Art in Social Sciences from the University of Western Ontario '89. I am a Certified Avalon Empowerment Trauma Aware Transformational Coach and Master Practitioner in Evolved NLP and Quantum Time Release.
Tell us about yourself
I've been in Real Estate Development for the past 25 plus years, and my long-term project was coming to an end. I was not sure what I was going to do next since it didn't appear I was going to be able to replicate my role/title/seniority/freedom etc., so I started thinking....and came up with the idea of a Personal Concierge business. Then the universe started leaving me a trail of breadcrumbs which I skeptically began to follow. I started working with a Coach - one of the first matters of order was mindset "stuff," which I knew nothing about. I was tasked to share my purpose. To that, I replied WHAT? And my coach pushed me - she said we all had a purpose. For the next 3 hours, she pushed, and I fought back with tears and expletives and almost threw in the towel - until I said, "I just want to be fu*king happy; I want others to be happy"! And somewhere in there, the word authentic also came out of my mouth. Well, a breakthrough, I would call it. Amand DID, in fact, has a purpose, and it appeared to be mainly fueled by my life experiences to date.
So now, my coaching business allows me to give to others in an authentic way so that they can find joy, peace, and happiness and know that they are heard, worthy, loved, important, and deserving. I do a lot of work with the unconscious mind to change the neurology around problems that don't seem to be going away.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Hmmm. Right now, taking the plunge as an entrepreneur and trusting that it will all work out in the end. I am starting from scratch at 55 years old, and it's scary, but I'm feeling the best I have in my life now all the toxicity has been shed, and I'm living life on my terms and helping others do the same.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Attracting clients.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You are exactly where you are meant to be right now.
- Don't give up.
- You are deserving.
