Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amanda Farnum, Founder of Amanda Farnum Training, located in Greenville, SC, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is a training and coaching company. Through marketing and mindfulness, I teach real estate agents and real estate brokers how to have peaceful, profitable, and sustainable real estate businesses that they love.
Tell us about yourself
I'm a Broker and agent myself and have been in this industry for over 20 years. I'm also a Certified Real Estate Instructor and have an extensive background of experience. I know this industry can be extremely difficult, and statistics prove it was showing an 80-90% attrition rate of agents quitting within the first 1-2 years in the industry. Not only do we lose good people that could have made a great life for themselves and helped a lot of others, but because of this high turnover, the consumer is ultimately the one who suffers from inexperienced or unprofessional agents representing them as well.
Over the years, I've learned a lot of hard lessons in running my own business; some were extremely time-consuming, some were stressful, and some were very expensive. If they can learn from my experience, then they won't have to learn the hard way or give up completely. Many agents and brokers have never had good mentors or anyone to learn the actual "business" aspects of our industry. When someone doesn't know how to run certain aspects of their business properly, this can lead to massive burnout, frustration, and, ultimately, quitting altogether. I want to change that. I want to help them instead be able to understand how to run a business in this industry. I want to help them be stable, give them more peace, and have the great quality of life that they dreamt of when they initially began. This is my motivation.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Taking the risk to go after this passion that has been in my heart for a long time in order to be able to serve and help others in my industry.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
For me, probably 1) not being attached to the outcome and also 2) letting go of control of aspects of others in your team.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You don't have to do everything at once. Just start, messy and all, and keep working at it.
- Mindset is everything!
- In all situations, ask yourself, "am I operating from Fear OR Love," and you'll always get the right answer on how to proceed.
