What's your organization, and who are your members?

Hope Housing Foundation (HHF) is a Texas nonprofit corporation dedicated to creating and conserving quality, safe, sanitary, affordable housing and Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing (NOAH) for low to moderate-income and economically challenged individuals and families. HHF enhances the lives of our residents and the communities we serve through the preservation and development of apartment communities using affordable set-aside units with amenities that are unavailable in older apartment communities and new workforce housing apartment communities without set-aside units. This contributes to the stability of our communities by creating various economic opportunities.

Alvin "Hope" Johnson has been in the real estate industry for over 35+ years. Alvin started as a handyman selling painting and repair services and grew his entrepreneurial skills into a $250,000,000+ empire. Alvin's rags-to-riches success story involves hard work, faith, and perseverance. Alvin is the President of Hope Housing Foundation (HHF), which is headquartered in McKinney, Texas, and was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 1998. HHF's business model positions the organization as one of the country's most effective, nonprofit, affordable, and workforce housing organizations. Alvin takes pride in being an industry leader by serving and building solid relationships throughout communities and business partnerships. With his faith and determination, HHF has become a frontrunner in the sustainable housing community. Alvin is also the CEO of Multi-Family Monopoly, an educational platform that offers a multitude of resources for investors and non-accredited investors to start or further their knowledge in multifamily development and ownership.

Motivation:

What motivates Alvin is being able to serve others by solving problems for the wealthy and high-income earners. By providing opportunities for them to invest in new multifamily developments that provide high double-digit returns while providing excellent tax benefits. Doing this allows Alvin to fulfill his mission by giving hope and housing to families and individuals in need of safe, sanitary affordable housing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as an organization?

Alvin's biggest accomplishment as a business owner was building a strategic plan that set him on the path to developing 20,000 workforce housing units using Structural Insulated Panel's (SIPs), which is set for completion in the next 5-years.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being an organization?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is accepting the power of endurance by creating your version of authenticity and getting others to cognize that vision.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow an organization today?

  1. Find your why? What motivates you to wake up each morning?
  2. Find purpose in your why? What is the purpose for your why?
  3. Learn to do good while doing good! Learn to serve others while serving your why and purpose.
