What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is business and credit building. My ideal customers are entrepreneurs and future entrepreneurs who want to build their personal credit to help secure business funding.
Tell us about yourself
I am an artist and label owner who succeeded in music, but I have seen a greater path. The music company helped me learn a lot about business because I was so passionate about my craft I would’ve done anything to succeed. At the time, that included learning the business side of things, which led to some music business consulting. A setback left me with a credit score of 504. When I looked for help, no one was trying to reach me anything, so I found a course online, signed up, and decided to start a credit repair company. A couple of months later, I met my mentor, Aazim Sharp, of Leaf Credit Solutions. He introduced me to business credit. I started building my own business credit. I realized that property structuring and building your business were key components of business credit building, so I decided to use my business degree and do business consulting instead of limiting myself to business credit consulting.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the successful pivot from music and entertainment to consulting. I have been profitable since my third full month in business.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is learning how to balance family, business, and education.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First, don’t think it’s going to be easy. Second, you get out what you put in. D.I.Y. means “delegate it yourself,” not “do it yourself.”
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
My transition is summed up pretty easily here, but I committed a lot of time and money to learning credit. I have a business administration degree, and I’m finishing up a business management degree at the Mike Ilitch School of Business at Wayne State University. I work my butt off, and I want my clients to have the same enthusiasm about what they do. Business is not a game.
