Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Karla Vidal of Altana Comunitaria, located in Mexico City, Mexico.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Altana Comunitaria is a non-profit organization that focuses on permaculture while offering nutrition and health education for people living on the Oaxaca coast. Our goal is to promote human rights, aiming for a biopsychosocial wellness state in rural communities.

Tell us about yourself

I studied Nutrition and started working in social development in the early years of my professional career. Food Safety is a very important matter to me, and addressing that issue is what motivates my nutritionist career - caring for people that live through hunger and educational deficiencies.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

For me, every small step counts - The goal may seem far, but our daily work keeps me motivated to keep on going. I'm positive we're planting so many seeds that will bloom and give us a great harvest in the near future.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Dealing with so many bureaucratic matters has been one of the hardest challenges, as well as keeping an eye on the economic support for the projects to be built.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't give up.
  2. Surround yourself with strong and dedicated peers.
  3. Every day counts; even if it's not a good one, it may turn out to be a great one in the long run.
