Aerial, Dance, and Fitness Studio - Alt Fit Jax
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lorien Anderson and Jaime Clark, Owners of Alt Fit Jax, located in Atlantic Beach, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Alt Fit Jax is a boutique fitness studio specializing in Pole Fitness and Dance. We provide a variety of fun, empowering fitness classes for people of all ages and fitness levels. We also host a lot of pole parties for bachelorettes, birthdays, girls’ nights out, and similar occasions and special events. The majority of our customers are women, but we are open and welcoming to everyone.
Tell us about yourself
We started as students at a previous pole fitness studio in the area. We both loved Pole enough to want to teach, so we took our certification courses and began shadowing/training and finally instructing. We both absolutely LOVE teaching! When we found out that our studio was closing, we knew we had to act. The two of us pooled our resources and knowledge and were able to open our first location just two months after the previous studio closed its doors. Our goal was, and is, to create a positive, supportive community that encourages members to reach their full potential. Our students are constant motivation – watching them get stronger and more confident, and find true joy in doing something healthy and empowering is pretty awesome.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Building an amazing community. Our members supported us through COVID and made sure there was a studio to come back to once we were allowed to open our doors again. Our students support us and each other in and out of the studio and are building lasting relationships.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It’s a 24/7 job. A lot of people don’t understand how much goes into running a business. And since we are a small business, we do everything. From answering the phones and running payroll to scheduling and building maintenance…it’s all on us. This can be hard on our personal relationships and is compounded by the fact that each of us works outside of the studio as well. Finding balance and downtime can be tough, but we support each other to help ease the load.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure it’s something you’re really passionate about.
- Get yourself an awesome partner (or at least someone you trust who can help you).
- Don’t shy away from Social Media.
