Creating Timeless Celebrations - Alston Mayger Events

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashley Lachney, Owner of Alston Mayger Events, located in Kelso, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a wedding planner in the PNW, helping couples throw timeless celebrations to reflect their timeless love stories. My clients are foodies, love their families, thrive on a spectacular guest experience, and seek out epic parties for their loved ones to attend.

Tell us about yourself

I interned with a well-known planning company in Portland, OR (shout out to Bridal Bliss!), and that really got me started in loving events and weddings. After that, I worked as an Event Coordinator at The Cowlitz Event Center in Longview, WA, for two years, and then launched my own business. I love asking and seeing why things happen the way that they do and if there's a way to do it easier and save your sanity (IE hiring an event/wedding planner) to help people see the way.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being booked and busy, when vendors tell me how easy I made their days on-site, any time a client testimonial comes in, any time a family member approaches me during the evening to tell me what a fantastic time they're having, all of these rolled up warm my heart. I love that people trust me to bring one of the most important parties they'll ever throw to LIFE, and I'll never take that for granted.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Managing the attitudes, personalities, learning styles, and communication styles of all the vendors we partner with have not proven easy. However, it's always worth it when you can remember something that someone told you in passing, and it makes their day when you come through with that tiny detail for them.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build your business like you'd build a home -- foundation first. Consult with legal, get yourself a great contract, and invest in the software you'll need to elevate your credibility and keep your client's information secure.
  2. Show up consistently and build relationships with other vendors that are in the same boat as you. Community over competition ALWAYS.
  3. Love what you do and share your why. Your vibe will attract those on the same level.
