What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a health coach who helps world travelers reclaim their health and well-being while traveling. Those who struggle with weight gain, struggle with maintaining health during travels, those who want help or guidance with fitness during travel, or all of the above. My business is dedicated to creating unique programs giving each client a one-of-a-kind experience, stretching far beyond the traditional thought of health. I am talking about expanding your thoughts about health to include every aspect of life, such as joy, relationships, and creating a home environment wherever you are in the world.
I help these individuals maintain their health while traveling, creating a free space to learn that food is a friend to be loved and enjoyed rather than fearing it. I strive to see each client walk away with confidence that they know how to listen to their body and understand what it is saying. Feeling confident in every moment of their travels, free of the guilt they once had while eating local delicacies.
Tell us about yourself
My journey to start this health coaching path started years before I even knew what a health coach was. I was 18 when I first left my home country of the United States. The very first country I went to was the Philippines. While there, I had the opportunity to work with Doctors Without Boarders, and that is when I first discovered that I wanted to work in the field of health.
As I continued my travels around the world, I noticed one recurring thing. I would always gain weight. By the time I would return home, I would have to find new ways to lose the extra weight. I had no idea where to start, so I would use unhealthy fad diets to shed weight, but what did I know about actual health.... nothing.
This all changed when I finally understood the harm I was causing my body, and that's when I decided I needed a change. The next trip I took, I treated food as a friend and used everything I knew about food to my advantage. I was able to enjoy all the food I ate without feeling guilty and without living only on salads. With this knowledge, I was also able to maintain my pre-trip weight.
The next year, I decided I wanted to expand my knowledge and become a health coach to help others who struggle while traveling. I wake up every morning excited to see what this new day will bring and how I can help others enjoy every aspect of traveling as I have learned to do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is that I am able to change a client's view on food and health. Each of my clients walks away with a new appreciation of food and its effects on the body. Most of the time, food can be the only medicine our bodies actually need. While other times we find out that our bodies are sensitive to certain foods. I love empowering my clients with this knowledge and seeing them walk away from my program more empowered and joyful than when they started.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing I have come across is having clients who aren't ready for change. I am very passionate about health and empowering others to reclaim their health, but sometimes I will come across someone who is not ready. It is hard, but I always have to remind myself that everyone is on different paths, and sometimes their path hasn't quite joined mine yet. All I can do is trust and hope that someday they will be ready and that they will reclaim their health before it is too late.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My first tip is to know that your business might not take off right away, and that's okay. Enjoy the process and never be too proud to learn more. My second tip is when trying to grow your business, don't waste your money on online ads (Pinterest, Google, Instagram...) My third tip would be to remember that just because it works for some does not mean it will work for you. Not every business or social media coach will be able to help you. Do your research before wasting your money on something that won't work for you.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
We are all different and unique, which is part of what makes us beautiful. "One size fits all" promises rarely work. Find what works for you and your body, and own it. You are your own special person, unlike anyone else.
