All About Nails - Allure Nail Bar

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristy Yang, Owner of Allure Nail Bar, located in Mississauga, ON, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Allure Nail Bar is a trendy nail bar located in Erin Mills, Mississauga. We pride ourselves in the most up-to-date nail trends, providing our clients with meticulous manicures that they can’t stop looking at. We are a fun and loving team who all have a passion for nails & art and can’t wait to share it with our clients. Our customers want the best for their nails, including a healthy and scheduled manicure routine. Our clients also love to show us pictures of trendy nails on social media and have us replicate or add our own twist to them!

Tell us about yourself

My name is Kristy, and I’ve loved everything about the beauty industry since I can remember. I had a LARGE nail polish collection and would love doing anyone and everyone’s nails as a kid. I experimented with different designs and matched my nails to my outfits. It’s my dream to build a successful business that is created with everything I stand for and love. What motivates me most each day is being able to change the nail game for our clients - educating them, giving them exactly what they ask for, and building relationships. Creating a team that loves what they do and looks forward to their day at work makes me feel like I’ve got the best team!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is seeing all the sweat, tears, and hard work pay off - Being recognized and rated the top nail salon of Mississauga by over four different award companies consistently throughout the last few years.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is the uncertainty of your environment - that anything can change in an instant that may be out of your control. For example, we had to close for over ten months when the pandemic happened. You have to be prepared to adapt to the next thing that pops up.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don’t give up when things don’t go your way. In the first year of business, I was so close to giving up because I didn’t see the results I was hoping to see. You have to keep trying and give in your 100% effort. I started seeing my progress pay off in the second year.
  2. Treat your employees well! I hear horror stories from many people about their previous workplaces, so I always try my best to be an understanding boss. Treat your staff how you’d like to be treated. Without a good team, the business cannot succeed.
  3. Stay up to date in your industry. Continue educating yourself and learning - clients appreciate that they can rely on us for that. This is how you can become the best you can be in your industry.
