Anchor Pelvic Physical Therapy - Allie Demers
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Allie Demers, Founder of Anchor Pelvic Physical Therapy, located in Winter Park, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help women struggling with pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, and bowel dysfunction. I am also passionate about helping women in the pregnancy and postpartum phases. I am a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist, and I have advanced certification as a Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist. I work with patients on healing from diastasis recti, weak pelvic floor, and pelvic organ prolapse, as well as guiding them in their return to exercise. I prioritize individualized, patient-centered, trauma-informed care and pride myself on being up on the latest research and techniques.
Tell us about yourself
In high school, I went from being a talented soccer player to completely blowing out my knee and having a very difficult rehab. I saw firsthand what it was like not only to lose function but have to stop doing the thing you love. I have always wanted to help people, and when I learned about pelvic floor health in physical therapy school, I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity to help men and women struggling with such sensitive and important issues. I specialized in pelvic health immediately after school and have been doing it for the past 11 years. I have since had four children of my own, and seeing how little support there is for women has made me even more passionate about this field and helping women.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
There are so many things I still want to accomplish, but so far, for me, it has been believing in myself enough to take the leap. I have had to push myself outside of my comfort zone and learn things I knew nothing about, but it has helped me grow as a person and a business so much.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I love the flexibility that comes with being a business owner, but it also means bringing work home with me more often than I used to. I think setting boundaries between business and my family is the hardest for me.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do it! There will never be a perfect time. Don't let fear hold you back.
- I love the Business Made Simple podcast. It has given me so many ideas and so much encouragement.
- Set 90-day goals. Personally, I like to set a goal and a stretch goal. It has helped push me.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Every day I get to help women is an honor and a privilege. I feel so lucky to be able to use my gifts to help others!
