Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Leah Fink, Owner of All Thrive, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help protect people from the pain of damaged relationships by giving them the skills they need to thrive, personally and professionally. Through facilitation, coaching, and speaking, I work with businesses and individuals to gain awareness of relationship patterns that might not be serving them and then provide concrete skills they can use to feel confident and happy in all of their interactions.
Tell us about yourself
When I was a teenager, I got into personal development, and that has been my passion since. After spending time working on addictions and mental health, I got even more determined to help people with a proactive approach to their self-development instead of a reactive one. I started All Thrive with the idea that no one should have to hit 'rock bottom' before they can learn how to make their life better. I know that having these skills in my own life allowed me to support people through suicidal ideation, and that is at the heart of what motivates me.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been the impact I have had on my clients. When I hear back from someone, years after we have worked together, and they share about how they are still using what they learned, I feel very fulfilled.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me, it was becoming a marketer. I knew so little about sales and how to market a business when I started, which was a huge growth point for me. I wanted to help people and had to learn that to do that; I needed to be reaching the right people with the right message.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find a community. Whether that is working with other people, joining a networking or mastermind group, or creating collaborative partnerships, you need other people around you to support and mentor you.
- Be aware of your mindset. The way you think about and believe in yourself, and your business is the biggest factor in whether you will succeed or not.
- Balance learning and taking action. There is so much that you need to know that it can be easy to feel like you have to know everything before you try something. Sometimes you have to start taking action and testing an idea to understand the next steps.
