Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alicia Ayala, Transformational Life Coach, Writer, and Speaker, located in Sarona, WI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I bring self-discovery and deep awareness to ambitious female leaders who are also moms, so they can get off of autopilot and create a life built around what they love and need – their career, family, and radical self-love.
I do this through my signature coaching program called Her Alchemy, where women reconnect to themselves - transforming their thoughts and life by looking at their story through a new lens! In medieval times alchemy was the process of taking base metals and turning them into gold. This is exactly what we do in Her Alchemy, we take all of the pieces of your story {beliefs, future vision, past wisdom/stories, and present state} and you see your gold – your power, so you can live a life that aligns to you. I have an online course coming soon.
Your power of who you are is in your story. It is through this state of awareness and strength that you are able to bring about quantum changes and shifts in your life. I believe that bringing more self-discovery and personal development to female mom leaders – will help transform corporate spaces into a place where women show up and use their voices, having no guilt about who they are as a leader and moms, bringing a balance of perspectives to corporate spaces, which currently doesn't exist. My goal is for female leaders to show up as they are, create a life they love, and become role models for future female leaders.
Tell us about yourself
For many years I lived in a bubble of "to do's" and not being present in my life. I was going through the motions, feeling unhappy and disconnected from who I was. I was dedicated to my career as a Sr. Director in Technology and climbing the corporate ladder. In my soul, I was a leader, and I knew I had more to give. I wanted to keep on growing and expanding, and I wanted to be the best mom I could be as a strong role model to my two young girls. There was this impossible and constant tug on both of these worlds.
In 2020 I realized my dream had shifted. I no longer wanted to be a CIO, but I wanted to be a leader for other female mom leaders, to inspire them to create a life they loved and get off of autopilot. I leaped from my 22-year corporate career to serve and share this message to impact corporate spaces in a bigger way. I am motivated to be an example for my two daughters and to help more female leaders have both a career and life they love because I believe you can have both!!!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Leaping from Corporate showed my two girls that when you define your future vision, create a plan, and take action, you can live an expansive life beyond what you are told. I want my girls to know they can be anything – they simply need to keep dreaming, take action, and be okay falling and getting back up. It is in the fall that you learn it all! Given the above - my biggest accomplishment has been staying the course as an entrepreneur and my mission-- even though it's been hard and remembering this why.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The entire day is yours. You get to choose, plan, and decide everything. It took me a good chunk of time to figure out how to organize myself when it is 100% my choice.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find other people who are doing what you want to be in doing and who are where you want to be in 1-2 years, and model them. Find a coach or mentor who has already been where you are and done what you want to do and learn from them. Keep investing in yourself.
- Be patient – it is all harder and takes longer than you think; you are on the right path.
- Your mindset and belief system will come into play, and it will try to sabotage you. There is a lot of deep inner work that is done through owning a business and overcoming some of the self-sabotage that comes along with it. Take the time to do mindset work. This is what will take you down – not your ability.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
No matter where you come from, your past doesn't determine your future or prevent you. Your mindset and belief system will. I grew up in a chaotic and violent environment and was told I would be nothing and no one. I worked tirelessly to create a 22-year technology career and "retired" as a Sr. Technology Director, as I was up for a VP role. YOU are your only limitation, not what you have been through. You can use what has happened to you to propel you or prevent you. It's always your choice.
