What's your business, and who are your customers?
My principal business is ghostwriting. I write the remarkable stories of thought leaders, entrepreneurs, celebrities, and many more. Over the years, I've penned eight #1 Amazon bestsellers, been featured in a documentary that was the #1 film in the world on Netflix a day after its release, and even released my first book under my own name, The Man Who Hacked the World. Nowadays, I dedicate my time to teaching others how to emulate my non-traditional model to become a successful ghostwriter. This platform is called Ghostwriting University.
Tell us about yourself
It was a total accident, actually. After a whirlwind journey around the world that lasted three years, someone saw some of my writings online. I was 21 years old, and they hired me to ghostwrite their memoir. That opened the door to a whole new world I never knew was there. I monetized my skill and started optimizing the business of ghostwriting in every way I could think of. These days, my motivation is the same as it was ten years ago: To tell incredible stories and help others learn how to do it, too.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The Netflix film likely is the biggest accomplishment of my career thus far. I don't know of any other ghost that has been featured in one. It's certainly helped grow my business and made me more of a household name in the industry.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being your own boss making core decisions, and training people how to emulate your own specific processes. At least in the creative world, this can be more difficult than other aspects of the business. But over time, and with great communication and dedication to the craft, you can teach others how to replicate what you do.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Work harder than anyone you know.
- Accept failure as the first tier toward success.
- Never, ever give up on your dream. If your business is not that dream, then it's time to find and develop the business that is.
