Helping You Achieve Optimal Health - Alana Foeller

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alana Foeller, owner of 3 Pillars Holistic Health, located in Wheat Ridge, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm the owner and sole practitioner at 3 Pillars Holistic Health. My clients tend to be people who struggle primarily with chronic or acute pain, digestive issues, insomnia, and/or mental health issues. I tend to work mostly with people who are invested in their health and value being heard and treated as a whole person. They come to me to get to the root of their health problems rather than for a quick fix or symptom management. My clients truly feel like family, and I'm invested in helping them live their happiest and healthiest lives.

Tell us about yourself

I have 20 years of experience working in health and wellness, and it's not just a career for me; it's a passion. I started practicing Eastern Medicine (Ayurveda) in 2012. I later became a Registered Nurse to build my clinical knowledge of medicine to better help my clients. After working in hospitals for almost a decade, I became frustrated with how poorly western medicine managed chronic pain and chronic health conditions in general. I felt like I was treating symptoms but never getting to the root of the problem. This led me to pursue a Master's degree in Acupuncture and Chinese medicine, which provided me with a framework to treat the whole person. I started 3 Pillars Holistic Health to provide patient-centered care to clients seeking balance over bandaids, and prevention first before pharmacology, with a promise to treat the root of their health conditions using Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, and Nutrition Therapy.

I'm motivated by my clients every time I see a transformation in their physical and mental health. I'm grateful that they trust me to help them on their journey to better health.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to grow my practice enough to transition from being a full-time Registered Nurse to a full-time Acupuncturist and Herbalist. It wasn't easy to walk away from a job where I worked three 12-hour shifts a week with benefits and PTO, but I followed my heart and my intuition, and I know I'm exactly where I should be.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Accounting and bookkeeping. I'm a people person, not a numbers person. I'm learning how to balance these aspects of my business, but it doesn't come naturally to me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on your strengths and hire someone else to handle the things your struggle with.
  2. Find a good mentor, an expert in your craft, and/or a business coach.
  3. Keep a journal of your success stories, and read that when you're having doubts about your ability to make it as a business owner.
