Make Some Magic - Alaina Faith Photography

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alaina Foster, Founder of Alaina Faith Photography, located in Billings, MT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hi! I'm Alaina with Alaina Faith Photography! I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Billings, Montana. I love every single second of photography, especially connecting with new people and capturing their special moments for them. As someone who has always been OBSESSED with love stories, nothing makes me more excited than documenting other people's love stories for them! Every single love story is unique and so much fun to capture. I love helping people remember their special moments through pictures so that they never forget them.

Tell us about yourself

Ever since I was little, I have loved to take pictures and capture unique moments in my everyday life. Photography has a special place in my heart, and I enjoy every single photoshoot I have, hyping everyone up, capturing everyone at their best, and making it a fun experience for all! I am based out of Billings, Montana. However, I LOVE to travel, and my whole family is always up for any kind of adventure, whether a fun camping trip in the middle of nowhere or a long road trip across the country. Aside from that, I am a huge bookworm, a coffee lover, and a hopeless romantic!

One of my favorite things to do is look back through old pictures and relive past memories. A picture is worth a thousand words, and they bring back moments you thought you'd lost forever. As our lives are constantly changing, photographs are powerful to look back on and to feel the emotions you once felt as you were going through a chapter of your life. As a photographer, I get the privilege of meeting new people and capturing their memories for them. Photographs keep memories fresh and alive. They help people reminisce about those special moments and to keep them from disappearing. To me, photography is more than just a job, it is a huge part of my life, and I love what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a wedding and portrait photographer would know how to pose people confidently and make them comfortable during their photoshoots. I believe that a photoshoot should be an enjoyable experience and not something you dread doing!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Wanting to please my clients while branching out and trying new things, new poses, etc. I work so hard to keep everyone comfortable in front of the camera, to settle their nerves, and to help them have an amazing experience!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't be afraid to start. Push through and just start. That was the hardest thing for me, I was so nervous when I started, but once I did, it was so worth it :)
  2. Research and practice. Knowing how to do something and practicing that skill is so important when starting your own business.
  3. Don't compare yourself to other business owners. When I started out, I did that often, and it was very discouraging. It takes time to perfect a skill, and your business won't be perfect from the beginning! Be patient, and you will get there :)
