Experience Painting with Red Wine - Ala Lopatniov Singereanu
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in art education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ala Lopatniov Singereanu, an artist, watercolourist, illustrator, and art teacher, based in Barcelona, Spain.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an artist and, from 2020, an art teacher. I teach people worldwide to paint with red wine. From 2020, more than 3000+ learned to paint with this amazing medium. Companies like AirBnB, Squarespace, Dropbox, Visa, and Pinterest joined my experience. People from the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, Argentina, México, Colombia, Spain, the UK, and France joined my classes.
Tell us about yourself
Till 2020 my artistic skills were more of a hobby. I finished Fine Art School back in 2005 but always painted for pleasure. In 2018, painting helped me get out of a stressful situation at my daily job, and back then, I understood that painting is very therapeutic. In 2020, when the pandemic started, I felt super good, and I didn't have bad thoughts; again, painting was something that relaxed me during the uncertainty and bad news. Then I decided to have classes for free with kids, to entertain them and to spend time in lockdown.
In March, I decided that I wanted to paint with adults, but I saw little interest in watercolors or drawing; then, I remembered a medium that I had practiced on my own, already for a few years, painting with red wine. And I thought that this medium would catch up the attention of adults. Definitely, this was a roller-coaster for my future teaching. I started my online experience on Airbnb, and people, little by little, started to join. Firstly I had one person per class, and then it has grown to team building classes with 30 people, once even 100 people in my class.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think I improved my coaching skills and speaking in public. I began to understand people's emotions and how to lead these emotions through the painting.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
In my specific case, I understood that I had to grow my social presence, and I found it really time-consuming. Sometimes you have to dedicate more time to promoting yourself than painting or teaching.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Join groups with people like you, not specifically with the same business, but with those with whom you can grow.
- Grow your social presence.
- Enjoy each day of growing your business. Every day is a new way to show this world your amazing skills.
