What's your business, and who are your customers?
APS is a behavioral health service delivery system combining the latest technology with the most up-to-date evidence-based practices aimed at putting data behind outcomes to improve treatment modalities and overall symptom management.
Tell us about yourself
I've been in the medical field for many years and have had medical compliance drilled into me. When I started working in behavioral health in consumer-led organizations, I was horrified at the ignorance of these laws. It's not about disregard. It's about lack of education. This started as a way to ensure peers were learning these things but has developed into a passion for helping the person receiving those services. I've been on the other side of the fence all my life and finally have a platform and a voice.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Each person that I get to witness the lightbulb moment is a miracle, and I'm honored that God is allowing me to be a vessel for his work.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Definitely convincing CEOs that they don't know everything there is to know. Including my own CEO! I have a very innovative mind and constantly get pushback and excuses. But I keep at it because the right thing is always the right thing.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't count on anyone else to motivate you or validate your effort. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it or won't make it because everything is thought to be impossible until it's done.
- Trust your instincts.
- Never give up. And finally, always remember that the way you do anything is the way you do everything.
