Be the CEO of You - Advanced Mind Health

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Diane Konkin, Founder of Advanced Mind Health, located in Niagara Falls, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have a no-repeat client therapy practice helping high-profile professionals break out of self-sabotage habits and thought patterns in only 1-2 sessions with a 99% success rate.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in a peacekeeper role in my family, then soon after I left home, I met my husband at university. Several years later, he developed clinical depression/bipolar disorder and self-medication with alcohol, which he said was "the only thing that helped," turned into chronic alcoholism. Being by his side as he tried to fight his demons, I felt helpless and powerless, but I managed to know exactly what to say to help him understand that what he was experiencing wasn't his fault... it was something that was 'happening' to him. Once he came out on the other side after 3 rehab programs, I knew somehow, some way, I wanted to help others experiencing this deep, emotional pain that medical professionals are not always helpful in providing relief from.

With my practice, I use the latest research in neuroscience to comfortably and quickly rewire old thought patterns which change your life. The only thing we can control is our thoughts, and our thoughts create our feelings which create our actions which make our lives. When working at a subconscious level, my clients are able to discover and reframe the root cause of their issues and therefore stop fighting with their minds. After only one session, their minds begin to support them rather than resist them. Change your thoughts and change your life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping people who have been in therapy for months or years reverse engineer their minds in only one session, including addiction, anxiety, depression, unwanted behaviours, and low confidence.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

With a no-repeat client practice, I spend a significant amount of time finding creative ways to keep meeting new people and building relationships, which is a challenge I actually enjoy :)

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You have more power than you think: Be aware that 95% of our behaviours, actions, and decisions come from our subconscious mind, which is designed to resist us. When you become aware of this and then challenge yourself as well as become comfortable with being uncomfortable, you become unstoppable.
  2. Don't identify with your business. You run your business, yes, but it is not you. If you try something in your business that fails, it does not mean you failed. Men wouldn't ever think this; why should you? It simply means that that particular tactic didn't work and needs to be rethought. Your business is separate from yours.
  3. Network, network, network: Networking is not prospecting. Learn the difference. Get out from behind your keyboard and talk to as many people as you can. "Become famous in your own town" was also one of the best tips I've learned. Meet people; talk about yourself first before your business so people connect with you. Relationships book clients, not ads.
