Ellis Institute of Weight Loss Coaching - Adriana Ellis
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adriana Ellis, founder of Ellis Institute of Weight Loss Coaching, located in Edmonton, AB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Weight Loss Coaching. My customers are women over 40 who are struggling with their weight and want someone who isn't a 20-year-old telling them what they should be doing to lose weight. The women I work with want someone who has some life experience of their own. Who understands the difference between a women's body in her 20's and in her 40's or more. The women I work with want to work with someone who perhaps has struggled with her own weight in later life and understands that what worked in your 20's does not necessarily work in your 40's.
Tell us about yourself
Although I was average weight most of my life, the older I got, the harder it was to stay slim, especially after I had children. Then after perimenopause, it was even harder. I get that life, hormones and stress have a huge impact on a women's ability to keep weight off or lose it. I love being able to help people navigate how to change their habits and behaviors to move toward their weight loss goals. I'm a down-to-earth person who loves to help other women become detectives in their own lives. To help find what works for each individual woman, because we know that weight loss is not a one size fits all solution.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I've been around a few years. I've taken a lot of training in the weight loss field, and I think I have a pretty good understanding of how hard it can be to lose weight. I also get that eating less and exercising more is simply not going to happen in many people's cases. There is more to it than that, and I get it. I also think one of my biggest accomplishments is my understanding that weight loss is very tough for most people, and I don't think poorly of anyone who has tried and tried and is still trying to get the weight off. I understand that these are the ones who have not given up yet, and they inspire me with their tenacity.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Working with people who want a quick fix. They just want to take a pill and have the problem go away. Unfortunately, it is not that easy, and I know so many people who could be very successful at getting the weight off; it would just take the time to work on the process.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't be in a rush. It can take some time before you start to see regular customers.
- Don't think everything has to be perfect before you start your business.
- Don't wait until you think you know everything. You will never know everything you need to know, so start anyways.
