Be Brave. Go Digital. - Adriana Cowdin
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adriana Cowdin, CEO of Dekaf Digital, located in Indianapolis, IN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Since 2016, Dekaf Digital has provided data-backed digital marketing services such as audience intelligence reports, organic social media, paid search/social ads, email marketing, campaign ideation, and marketing strategies to mid-large size companies in the U.S. With explosive growth YoY, 2023 has brought a new opportunity. Launching in Q1 '23, Dekaf Digital will provide a comprehensive social media marketing DIY toolkit and monthly social media management services exclusively for small businesses, entrepreneurs, consultants, and the like. We're excited to bring our solutions to the backbone of America, small businesses.
Tell us about yourself
Building a foundation of knowledge, skill, and leadership in corporate America gave me the courage to start Dekaf Digital. I'd reached the C-Suite and was faced with the ultimate question "What's next?" Dekaf Digital was the answer. I love that I wake each day to a new challenge that I have full control to solve - be it from a client, a team member, or a partner. It inspires me to know that the work we do makes a bottom-line impact for our clients and that our team has a great time doing it. The flexibility initially forced by the pandemic of being a remote workforce has now become engrained in our team, and we have people all over the United States, from Washington to Pennsylvania and everywhere in between.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is growing the company to $1M+ in annual revenues. When you start from zero, it takes strength, grit, and confidence to know you'll achieve your goals. Up next: $5M in annual revenues.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I was accustomed to having a peer group in corporate America. If I had a tough decision or needed advice, I could walk down the hall to a fellow executive's office for said advice. When you start a business, the decisions are all yours, and it can be lonely, particularly when it comes to hard decisions.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top 3 tips I'd give to someone looking to start or grow a business are:
- Find a need in the market, and meet it with your product or service.
- Do business with people you like - if you're going to do it, you might as well enjoy it.
- Persevere and have patience. With time and perseverance, good things will happen.
