Creating Unforgettable Memories - Adirondack Safari
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrew Percetti, owner of Adirondack Safari/GlampADK, located in Warrensburg, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Adirondack Safari is a “glamp ground” located on the Schroon River in Warrensburg, NY. We offer guests the ability to “escape the concrete jungle” by providing luxury camping sites. Each site is fully furnished with up to 3 queen beds and equipped similar to a hotel room..except outside. We also provide entertainment and activities.
GlampADK is our mobile division. We setup and deliver the same furnished tents to your location for anything from birthday parties to weddings.
Tell us about yourself
We started with an opportunity and a random idea. I was following Adirondack safari on Facebook and always wanted to go and check it out but never did. At the end of their season in 2018, the owner had made a post about selling some of their older tents. I happened to respond and bought some. Not knowing yet what I was going to do with them. A friend of mine had a party tent rental business, and I helped him from time to time. Noticing that a lot of his setups were at farms and venues in the middle of nowhere, I had the idea to use those tents for wedding guests. Not only was it an opportunity for a business but, it helped these venues entice couples who may have shunned away because their guests had nowhere to stay.
Fast forward a year later, the owner of Adirondack safari saw the drive and passion I had for the business and offered me the option to buy it from him! Which I happily accepted.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
To turn a few hundred dollar opportunities into a successful business and then, a year later, buy the business that idea spawned from.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Knowing when to hand the reigns over to others and relying on their skills and talents so you can grow to the next level.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Trust your gut.
- It is not always what you know. Sometimes it’s tapping into your network to help you navigate.
- Don’t pursue a business or opportunity for the income potential. It should be from a passion.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I always knew from the age of 15 that I would be successful and that I wasn’t going to let a degree determine my worth. I never knew how but knew some way. Through hard work and determination and some failures along the way, my path would eventually be cleared.
