What's your business, and who are your customers?
ADDept is a blog and digital resource for big-hearted, creative adults with ADHD.
Tell us about yourself
I started ADDept.org in 2019 because my private therapy practice was inundated with people with ADHD that were struggling to act on their intentions, values, goals, and unique brilliance because the world wasn't built for their brains. I couldn't serve everyone I wanted to, and I particularly wanted to have more science-backed information available to those that couldn't access quality specialized care.
I am inspired by the people I work with on a daily basis. The boundless energy, relentless spirit, and out-of-the-box thinking that come with an ADHD brain are infectious and so needed in today's world. But I also see the pain that having this brain can bring. My mission is to help people embody their gifts while building supports and structures that help alleviate their struggles.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My most meaningful accomplishment is student success in my digital course, Meltdown to Mastery. When they post a win, complete the course or manage an emotionally volatile situation with intentions intact- that's what keeps me going.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Managing constantly changing algorithms.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start with a mission that is meaningful to you- it will carry you through the tough times.
- Set your long-range goals, but focus on the short-term gains.
- Celebrate everything and then get back to work.
