Adaptive Health and Restoration - AdaptDaily
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kiki Athanas & Amber Allen, Co-Founders of AdaptDaily, based in Toronto, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a vegan herbal supplement company that focuses on providing and educating clients on the benefits of taking adaptogenic herbs for longevity and well-being.
Tell us about yourself
Amber: For years, I struggled with chronic pain and inflammation and found that herbal remedies helped me better than modern medicine could. This motivated me to teach other people the benefits and safety of taking herbal remedies for chronic conditions.
Kiki: I have always felt really excited about anything “wellness.” Healthy foods, nourishing forms of movement, mindful practices that help you feel clear, energized & at home in your body...all of this genuinely lights me up from the inside out. Adaptogenic herbs were one of the things I found along my journey, which I found most effective in times of stress, and helping more people get familiar with taking these medicinal plants on a daily basis makes me excited to do what I do each day!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Amber: I think my biggest accomplishment as a business owner was taking a natural product to market that was not only efficacious and with the highest quality herbs, but that we did in a zero-waste container.
Kiki: One of the big wins that stands out for me is when we got into Whole Foods. To me, Whole Foods was the “wellness giant” - the big fat healthy grocer guru that I always looked up to and adored visiting (often on a daily basis...don’t judge me!). To see our products stocked on their shelves is a reaffirmation that we’re well on our way!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Amber: The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is managing inventory so that you are not out of stock nor overstocked in products; it's a delicate balance.
Kiki: 100% it's managing uncertainty. Everything is changing. You're the only one in "control," - and you often have to completely let go of control...while managing important things like finances, inventory, your team, etc. Facing the ups and downs in a way that's fluid, flexible, but also realistic and responsible - is a continuous balancing act.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do the inner work first. Believe in yourself. Develop self-confidence. Find clarity in what ACTUALLY matters to you (& focus on that!).
- Set clear goals & measure them often. Your roadmap can change - but you still need one.
- Immerse yourself in a supportive & entrepreneurial community. Make friends with other biz owners. Hang out with entrepreneurs. Surround yourself with the energy of success.
