Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adam Moody, Owner of Oasis Optimization, located in Ithaca, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Oasis Optimization, we're in the business of helping small and mid-sized e-commerce owners create scalable profits through the power of email marketing. Our approach is fun, effective, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each of our clients. Whether you're looking to boost sales, increase customer engagement, or build brand loyalty, we help achieve those goals and help increase profits.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a focused entrepreneur with a love for effective communication and a drive to help businesses see better results. My journey into e-commerce email marketing began when my business partners (in another business) and I started a store on the WooCommerce platform and quickly realized the importance of email communication in building a successful online business. Having had previous experience with email marketing for online courses and training, I seized the opportunity to put my skills to use and help our business thrive.

As we saw great results from our email marketing efforts, we began taking on clients with our excess capacity, and before we knew it, Oasis Optimization was born. It's been an incredible journey building a team and growing our business.

I firmly believe that effective communication is the cornerstone of any successful business, and it's a joy to be able to combine my passion for business, helping others, and communication in the work that I do. Seeing the positive impact we have on our clients' businesses is what keeps me motivated and excited to continue improving Oasis Optimization every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, I'm fortunate to have had many accomplishments that I'm proud of. One of the most recent achievements that stand out to me is helping a client improve their opt-in form's performance by an impressive 600% and generating tens of thousands of dollars in profits through targeted automated follow-up flows. This not only means that our client has more leads and customers but also has the potential to significantly increase their revenue.

I have to add, though, I love the personal satisfaction that comes from making a positive impact - when a client shares feedback about how much their subscribers enjoyed an email or how it made them laugh or smile, it reminds me why I do what I do. Seeing the tangible impact that effective email marketing can have on businesses and their customers is a tremendous source of fulfillment, and it definitely motivates me.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a business owner, one of the toughest challenges I've faced is being my own manager. When you're responsible for your own success, as well as that of your team, it can feel like there's never enough time in the day to get everything done. As a Marine, I was certainly no stranger to taking on responsibility, but I personally felt that running a business took it to a whole new level.

For me, this realization meant that I needed to become much more focused on personal productivity, time management, and people management. That's why I created a separate YouTube channel and website dedicated solely to these topics - to help others navigate the same challenges that I faced as a business owner. By learning how to prioritize tasks, delegate effectively, and motivate my team, I've been able to overcome the obstacles that come with being a business owner and continue to drive my business forward.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Starting, running, and growing a business can be challenging, but there are a few key principles that can help you succeed. Here are my top three tips:

  1. Learn, Plan, and Take Action - in that order! It's not enough to simply have a great idea - you need to have a plan for how to bring it to life and then take consistent action to make it a reality. By investing time in learning and planning upfront, you'll be able to avoid costly mistakes and achieve your goals faster.
  2. Create and Use Processes - they don't have to be perfect, but they do have to be used. Processes are essential to building a scalable business and can help you streamline your operations, improve efficiency, and deliver a consistent experience to your customers. Start small with something like a simple checklist in Google Docs, and then refine your processes over time as you learn what works best for your business.
  3. Genuinely Care About People - it's not just about the bottom line. Whether you're dealing with customers, team members, or yourself, prioritize important relationships. By going the extra mile to show that you care - whether it's through personalized messages, honest feedback, or simply taking time off when you need it - you'll build a reputation and following that will help your business thrive for years to come.
