Don't Settle for Average - Action Jackson Fitness
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jackson Bloore, Founder of Action Jackson Fitness, located in Costa Mesa, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Action Jackson Fitness, and I help high-performing men and women over 35 who have Tonal or workout in a gym get 6-pack abs or a bikini body in weeks, not months or even years while keeping their results for life.
This is a permanent lifestyle change, not just a quick-fix, hack, or crash diet. And while I've helped a few people lose over 100 pounds, most of my clients tend to go from average or good to GREAT. My clients are ambitious, smart, and successful. They know their body is the key to living a long, active, and healthy life. It's also the single most important factor for maximizing productivity, energy, and life experience. Beyond that, they want to ensure they set the right example for their kids and be a better, more effective leader at work.
Most people in their 40's, 50's, and even 60's simply accept the aches, pains, injuries, and weight gain as a "normal" part of aging. My clients want to defy the odds, break the shackles of their genetics, and live a life without limits. I help them do this with my unique approach leveraging The 4 Pillars to 6-Pack Success: Training, Nutrition, Mindset, and Accountability. Over the course of 16 weeks, we optimize everything in their life that impact their health and fitness with a customized sustainable approach, and the results have been nothing short of outstanding.
Tell us about yourself
My mother is one of the main reasons I really gravitated toward health and fitness in my early 20's. Watching her struggle with her weight and seeing her health deteriorate over the years was one of the things that drove me to quit my comfortable consulting job at Accenture to become a personal trainer back in 2012. While I've had a fire under my butt since then, it got turned up to Defcon 1 when. On May 21, 2021, at just 70 years old, my mother passed away. She struggled with her health all her life despite many warnings from friends, family, and even her doctors. As a result, she was stricken with high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep apnea, restless leg, anxiety, and depression. A defibrillator inserted into her chest kept her alive for years, restarting her heart 17 times after it stopped. After a seemingly endless array of health problems, she was diagnosed with and eventually lost her battle with cancer, devastating my entire family and me. Despite her struggles, my mom was my rock, always there when I needed her. Her caring, kindness, and compassion knew no bounds right up until her final days on this earth. She was a wonderful mother to me and my two sisters, a loving wife to my father, and a caring sister to her five siblings. I'd give anything for more time with my mom, but despite every attempt at reason, logic, and even begging — I couldn't save her. All I can do now is prevent as many people as possible from suffering the way she did. And the way my family has as a result. I'll never forget what she said to me in her final days. She said, "Jackson, I want you to learn from my mistakes." I have, and now I want others to do the same.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
While I can give you accolades like my Amazon best-selling book '7 Secrets For Chiseled Abs' which was #1 in the Ab Category when it launched and has 110 five-star reviews, being a founding coach on Tonal, or winning San Francisco Magazine's "Best Trainer For Abs" Award in 2015.
Without a doubt, my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is helping people create what I like to call "Generational Health." Many people like to focus on money and wealth, but I think health is a fan bigger crisis in this country. One person dies every 34 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease. About 697,000 people in the United States died from heart disease in 2020—that's 1 in every five deaths. Those stats are straight from the CDC website. Most of my clients aren't doing this for selfish reasons. The six-pack or bikini body is just a symbol of success; it's a trophy on the mantle or a gold medal around their neck. But this journey is about so much more than abs. It's about. Ensuring they can live a long, healthy, happy, and active life free from disease, depression, and anxiety. Impacting future generations and fighting back against heart disease. Setting an example for friends, family, co-workers, and colleagues to follow. Providing their kids with a long, healthy, and happy life by instilling healthy habits at a young age. Confidence, pride, challenging oneself, overcoming obstacles. And helping people break free from their frustrations, overcome their age, and blast past their genetic limitations to become the AB-solute best version of themselves. For them. For their families. And for the world.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Without a doubt, the hardest thing in business is getting help to leverage my time and scale my business. At first, you do everything yourself, and while overwhelming at times -- you get very good at lots of things. But once the business begins to take off, you realize that you can no longer do everything yourself if you want to continue to grow, scale, and ultimately help more people. Action Jackson Fitness has been in a transition phase for the last two years, where I'm finally starting to get help so I can ultimately change more lives. It's by far the most difficult thing I've done.
Interviewing and finding qualified people that share your passion and vision is much harder than I ever thought it would be. And if that wasn't challenging enough, you've got to then train, manage, and lead these people in addition to all the other things on your plate without spending too much money.
It's one of those things I know I have to continue to work at, improve, and grow. Ultimately, I know it will eventually be worth it because of all the people I'll be able to help, but it's been a difficult process. I just try to think of it as a metaphor for the struggle my clients endure as they go through my program. I've already learned so much, and I'm going to continue so I can spend more time doing what I do best -- coaching clients and changing lives.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Take action, get help, and be resilient. My tagline is "Action is the difference between dreaming and succeeding." It sounds cliche, but it's 100% true. You see, most people think they need to feel motivated to take action, but it's actually the opposite. You need to take action, and only then will you feel motivated. I can summarize this in one sentence: it's far easier to act your way into a way of thinking than it is to think your way into a way of acting. Reread that sentence until you really get it. You don't need the perfect plan, ideal conditions, or some orders from on-high. You just need to get started by taking action. And you will learn more by doing than you ever will from books, courses, podcasts, or consuming content.
Next, I like to practice what I preach, so I get coaching. I've spent over $150K on coaching over the years, from fitness to business and everything in between. Not all were good or worth the money; in fact, most weren't, but a few were worth 10x the price of admission. A coach will give you insights and strategies, help you avoid pitfalls and obstacles, and hold you accountable when you don't feel like following through. It's like a shortcut to success. You've still got to do the work, but I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for a few amazing coaches and mentors that helped me along the way.
Lastly, you've got to understand that building a business is going to take everything you've got. It's going to push you to your limits and beyond. It's going to ask for everything you've got and then more. You've got to be resilient.
My favorite book of all time is The Alchemist, and here is one of my favorite quotes: "When you possess great treasures inside of you and tell others about them, seldom are you believed." Your friends and family will likely call you crazy, they will tell you to give up, and most people won't support you. You've got to push through anyway and find those that will help you along the way. This is another quote from The Alchemist: "Before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way." When it gets tough, everything seems to go against you, and you want to give up -- know that this is just a test from the Universe or God or whatever you believe in... and if you can resist the temptation to quit and persist, the world will be yours.
