Doctor & Injury Attorney - Accident Treatment Centers
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christopher Calarco, Executive and Managing Clinic Director of Accident Treatment Centers, located in Chicago, IL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
If you have ever been involved in a car accident, you know how scary it can be. When your adrenaline kicks in, you have to take extra care to make the right choices and handle the situation appropriately. While every car accident will be different, dealing with your injuries while trying to navigate a complex healthcare system, auto insurance companies, and possibly attorneys can be overwhelming. Accident Treatment Centers is a network of Chiropractors who specialize in dealing with your injuries after a car accident. Our case managers walk you through the treatment process while helping you deal with your auto insurance company or legal team.
Tell us about yourself
Helping someone heal and feel whole again so they can focus on getting back to doing the things they love after an accident is extremely rewarding. Especially when you get to see patients as much as we do, depending on the injuries, we may be working with someone 2-3 times per week initially, which usually gets less and less over time as someone gets better. You really get to know a person in that amount of time, and to watch them gradually improve feels incredible. It's also humbling to work with such an amazing healthcare team. It takes a team for the best outcomes in many cases, and being able to partner with medical specialists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals allows you to collaborate, learn and grow constantly.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
While there have been a lot of mistakes or lessons learned along the way, I think the biggest accomplishment as a business owner would be growing year after year while maintaining the highest level of communication and care possible. It has also been extremely important to adapt to changes as quickly as possible while communicating with our team about their needs and ways we can improve. Sometimes even the smallest changes can lead to big outcomes.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest and, ironically, one of the best things about being a business owner is, ultimately, it's all on you. Everything is on you. When things go well, or when there are challenges, it all comes down to things you have or have not done, from decisions made to people hired and everything in between. That can be stressful at times, but it can also be liberating when you know there is usually something you can do to solve whatever comes your way with enough focus, determination, education, growth, and implementation.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Focus on the process. Make completing your daily tasks and goals something to celebrate. If you can do that daily, you will make real progress toward your bigger goals without feeling overwhelmed.
- Find your strengths and weakness. Delegate to others to address your weaknesses as soon as possible because normally, anything you're not good at you not passionate about, and someone else could probably do it better.
- It's rarely a straight line to anywhere you want to go in life, including business. There will be ups and downs, and maintaining your will and focus will be important. Know there are things that will be successes and challenges every day. That reality needs to sink, and you need to look at the challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.
