Creating Unique Experiences - Abhishek Iyengar

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Abhishek Iyengar, Co-Founder of WeMove Theatre/Solutions, located in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We run a unique business that actually did not have a business model till recently. I, along with my partner CEO Rangaraj Bhatracharya run a Theatre based Learning solutions company that is mainly into Learning and Development. We were a Theatre group initially doing stage theatre, creating stories on stage. Then we expanded and innovated and found value in what we were doing onstage to bring it to life in the day-to-day corporate world, and that's where we started our company. Our customers are big, medium, and small enterprises to individuals; they are from a wide range.

Tell us about yourself

I am an engineer by education who worked in IT with a great passion for telling stories and writing them. I began stage theatre early in my school days, and it kept me hooked. I managed to sail on two boats for nearly a decade, and that's when I decided to pursue my passion as a profession. One day when me and my partner Rangaraj were working on stage production, one of the directors at the company where I used to work called me knowing that I do Theatre and asked If we could do a Theatre workshop for team synergy inside the organization and that's when we struck the gold, we kept thinking until we realized that this could be actually a business model.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my biggest accomplishment is giving a business outlook and employing people, thus creating jobs in the field I mentioned. It gives me immense strength to do the same; art is never monetized, and finding a way to monetize effectively is a great achievement. It makes one realize the potential of their skill. Identifying the skill of people makes any business grow, and by starting WeMove Theatre and Solutions, we have been able to achieve that for over 8 years now.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Rangaraj and I have always spoken about it and believe that every day is hard in our line of work. To think that we are pulling a business out of an unexplored area, we need to work with double vigour and make sure we achieve at least 10% of what we visualize. Scalability is our hardest thing, and overcoming that with technology is the next hardest thing for us.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Passion to run the business.
  2. Patience to sustain.
  3. Resilience to withstand.

These three are very important; everything can fall in place if one has these three things.
