What's your business, and who are your customers?

I create abstract photography and meditation artwork. My customers include everyday people looking to begin a meditation practice - well, hospitals, assisted living facilities, recovery centers, yoga studios, and therapy offices.

Tell us about yourself

I started creating abstract photography as a creative release while I was working other odd jobs. Finally, after many suggestions, I went back to school to study digital art and design. Over the last few years, I have had the desire to blend mindfulness and science to improve the artwork for interior spaces. I am motivated to continue because I want to help enlighten the day-to-day lives of other humans.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Doing it all myself. I put myself through college with the help of financial aid and multiple awards, scholarships, and grants. Now I work to develop my artwork and grow my business as a solo business owner.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Paperwork. As an artist, my favorite part is creating artwork. But as a business owner, you also have to play all the other roles in keeping your business afloat, such as filing taxes and keeping up with emails and social media.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start by writing a business plan.
  2. Create a business you are passionate about.
  3. Remember to have fun!
