Find Peace Clarity and Connection - A Walk In My Stilettos
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Makini Smith, Founder of A Walk In My Stilettos, located in Whitby, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
As a mindset coach and Proctor Gallagher certified consultant, I help turn goals into accomplishments. I am also a bestselling published author and host of the 5-star rated "A Walk in my Stilettos" podcast— one of the top 1.5% most popular podcasts globally. By coaching frustrated, confused, or isolated women, I help them find peace, clarity, and connection.
Tell us about yourself
I started my journey in personal development after a series of life-changing events, from divorce to grieving the loss of my sister. What began as a mission to heal me from pain quickly transmuted into purpose.
After my sister passed away in 2012, processing the heavy emotions became too much to bare. The loss made me ask myself, "what legacy do I want to leave behind?" I began to emulate her positive qualities and help others. The more impact I made, the more I invested in personal development to learn how I could be the best version of myself. I was learning to tap into my potential by harnessing the power of our thoughts, feelings, and actions. The positive changes I experienced made me think, "Everyone needs to know this information." I'm motivated every day by the transformation. The impact of changing lives for the better and leaving a legacy keeps me going.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My greatest accomplishment as a business owner is seeing clients achieve what they once thought impossible. Getting messages and testimonials from women I've helped start businesses, produce podcasts, publish books or even leave unhealthy relationships and start therapy. It's an accomplishment to see the impossible happen.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things is the peaks and valleys. In some seasons, the business can be extremely slow, and then there are seasons where my calender is booked back to back all week for months. Finding the balance to sustain the business long-term while prioritizing self-care is hard.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Know:
- The problem you solve.
- The solution you offer.
- Who is your target market?
Those three are essential to start, run and grow a business today.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I launched a company this year to help women self-publish using the same tools and resources as traditional publishers without the need for their validation or approval. Legacy Leavers Media was birthed after helping so many others own their story through mindset coaching and turn their goal of becoming international authors into a reality.
