A platform for us to come together and learn from each other - Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Trainings

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Olivia Scobie and Natalie Grynpas, owners of Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Trainings, located in Toronto, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We offer training to perinatal mental health professionals to help them support their clients through postpartum depression/anxiety, burnout, birth and reproductive trauma, loss, etc.

Tell us about yourself

CPMHT started after attending a training on perinatal mental health that was run by an American organization.  It didn't resonate for us much because the Canadian Health Care System is so different. But we loved meeting with other Canadian professionals and became aware of just how much wisdom and knowledge we each had - we just needed a platform for us to come together and learn from each other.  Natalie and Olivia quickly got to work to build this community and just over a year later we have three certificate programs, monthly peer consultation groups, and lunch and learn workshops.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We are really proud that in our first year we had over 400 students complete our programs.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

We had planned to be an in person training organization but just after we launched COVID struck. We had to quickly re-do our entire business plan and adjust to moving online. It was tough!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1. Be thoughtful about who you work with.  Look for folks who share your vision and values.

2. Hire out the jobs that you hate to do or would need to do a lot of training to get good at

3. Give yourself time to do nothing or putter. If you are working all the time you will miss moments of inspiration
