Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bryan Creely, Founder of A Life After Layoff, located in Nashville, TN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
A Life After Layoff offers career coaching.
Tell us about yourself
I started A Life After Layoff in 2020 after experiencing a layoff due to the pandemic. At the time, it was catastrophic (what layoff isn't?), but I decided almost immediately to start a business helping others facing the same thing. I applied my 20 years of hiring and HR experience to create a career-focused resource to truly help job seekers get an insider advantage while peeling back the curtain of the often mysterious (and misunderstood) world of corporate recruiting. Since 2020, I've built several robust courses, including Resume Rocketfuel, teaching people how to access the hidden job market with Unlocking LinkedIn and how to navigate your way through a hiring process to end up with the best possible offer in The Ultimate Jobseeker Bootcamp. The number of messages I get daily about how I've impacted people's lives is what keeps me going. I've been truly blessed to be able to share my expertise in something meaningful with so many people.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is helping thousands of people find jobs and upgrade their careers. I love owning my own business (my passion), and helping genuinely and tangibly impact people's lives is incredibly rewarding.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Balancing my family, business, marketing, creating content, and keeping everyone happy. Burnout can be a real thing, and I'm learning to let go of all of the tasks. Simply not enough of me to do it all.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Pick your passion. You'll stick with it if you love what you do.
- Make sure there's a reasonable market. Focus on scalable products/services.
- Build an audience before you do anything else. Find one social channel you like best and create consistently good content that gives value. All the other stuff, like websites and products, can come after you have an audience.
