Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey by launching a yoga and wellness business, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kerstin Zettmar, founder of MIRA Holistic Services, located in Newport, RI, USA.
Tell us all about your business...
For the past 30 plus years, I have tended to people who have come to me. Some are for Massage Therapy, others with The Rosen Method Body/Soul work, Yoga, past life Regressions, and more.
What's your background and motivation to grow as a solopreneur?
All my life, people have confided in me and felt safe with me. When I turned 30, I decided it would be most honest to start a holistic business so that people who might benefit from my help could find me. That way, I also would not feel guilty over talking intimately with people instead of doing my actual work tasks at my other jobs. ( I had all kinds of jobs before. Journalist, art teacher, substitute teacher, shop clerk, model, you name it. )
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would say that I have managed to serve most of my clients for a very long time, Some for as long as 31 years.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?
- Be prepared to work very hard at putting yourself out there for the first few years. People cannot find you and work with you if they do not know you exist.
- Let people know who you are as a person. Maintain healthy professional boundaries, but do not hide behind tasks and techniques too much. Give from your heart. People can sense when you do.
- If you do not like a client( for whatever reason), you are better off referring them to someone else who might. The client will most likely feel your dislike, and it will interfere with the work you try to do. Luckily this has not happened very often to me.
