What's your business, and who are your customers?

A Cookie Called Quest is a gourmet handcrafted vegan cookie company. For anyone that's seeking a soft, chewy home-baked style cookie without the use of dairy or animal by-products. A Cookie Called Quest delivers uncompromising taste, quality, and texture with a range of unique flavors.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a graphic/web designer by profession with an undeniable sweet tooth. After making the switch to a plant-based diet five years ago, I struggled to find baked goods that satisfied my need for sweets. I love cooking and baking and decided that I could create a really great cookie while using my brand development experience to really make something special. The idea of being my own boss and creating something that will leave such a positive experience with everyone motivates me each day to do what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was selling out at two of the largest vegan festivals in Toronto and New York in 2021.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Time management ranks top on my list as one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner. You have to be very intentional in balancing life and business responsibilities.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

For anyone looking to start a business, I'd really encourage them to:

  1. Understand who their target audience is. Not everyone is your customer.
  2. Seek out the experienced professionals in areas of your business you're not familiar with.
  3. Always aim to provide the best possible customer experience.
