Making Learning Fun - A Brighter Adventure_ ABA
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lora Chon, Co-Founder of A Brighter Adventure_ ABA, located in Fountain Valley, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Our business is to provide services to paraprofessionals and registered behavior technicians (RBT) to help them strengthen their skills in applied behavior analysis (ABA) with special needs individuals or anyone with behavior issues. We provide tutoring for exams, both RBT and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), and online training courses in applied behavior analysis.
Tell us about yourself
My co-founder and I met while they were studying for the "Board certification exam" (BCBA). While studying for the exam, we wanted mentorship, and a mentor to ask questions and redirect them to find the right answers for the exam and concepts. While studying together, this is something that we both value. After we became board-certified behavior analysts (BCBA) and worked out in the field, we noticed that quality supervision and providing quality teaching of applied behavior analysis (ABA) techniques and intervention strategies were lacking. We both always had an interest in teaching others and took it upon ourselves to start teaching individuals. Learning and dealing with challenging behaviors is challenging, but together can be a brighter adventure for the future. That is how 'a brighter adventure_ABA' was born in 2021.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We have both been in the field working in applied behavior analysis after 10-plus years of experience. The biggest accomplishment so far is to start our own business to provide quality support and mentorship to teach future BCBAs in the field.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with a business owner is the sacrifices (missing holidays, birthday parties, giving up some social life, etc.) we have to make to grow the business and provide the best services to our technicians and paraprofessionals.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The first tip we would give is to go into the business knowing that you have learned lots of new skills, so be humble and patient with yourself. The second tip is to give yourself breaks between tasks to enjoy the small things in life. The last tip is to celebrate the small wins, no matter how small they are.
