What's your business, and who are your customers?
Coffee Shop 831 specializes in Hawaiian coffee. We serve fresh, sustainable smoothies and breakfast in Waikiki. Our customers are from all over the world, including many loyal residents.
Tell us about yourself
I was born and raised in Japan. In 2013, I moved to Hawaii to study raw food and yoga. I started to think about how important it is for us to live with mother nature inspired by surfing, yoga, and the people in Hawaii. In 2016, I opened Coffee shop 831, which is committed to sustainability and stewardship of our planet in Waikiki. I love the ocean, and I want nature to be in harmony with people. I wanted to run a business that reflects this love of nature and sustainability.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is being able to run a business for 8 years in Waikiki, Hawaii. Our shop is still evolving according to the situation.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things for me is finding balance in my life. As a business owner, I am always on call. However, sometimes I have trouble creating new projects.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Create your own clear business vision, including a motto that supports your personal values. When you get lost, you can always go back to the vision that you made.
- Love your staff, love your customers, and love yourself.
- When there is no solution in sight, get out of your mind and go into your heart. Take a break and have some COFFEE!
