Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brett E. Roberts, co-owner of 782 Fitness, located in Charlottetown, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We offer training programs for people of all ages and backgrounds. We have group fitness classes for CrossFit for adults and teens, and kids. We also work with Special Olympics PEI & Stars For Life, working with adults with autism. We have a seniors class, and we also work with athletes training for their specific sport. We have programs for athletes in wheelchairs, and we also train athletes looking to do CrossFit as a sport.
Tell us about yourself
I always had an interest in physical activity and teaching, so opening a gym seemed like the right fit. Each day I get to see people get stronger physically and mentally and push through boundaries in the gym. They are then able to take those tools to their real lives and apply that work ethic to make their job, family, life better.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is providing a space for people from all sorts of backgrounds to work out and build not only a healthier physical self but a healthier mental self. Each day I see the benefits of physical activity for many different people. I see people connecting, supporting, and helping one another that may have never met, and that makes my day.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Right now, the hardest thing is navigating the changes due to the COVID pandemic. It is always being on the lookout to make sure we are doing the best for our members.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
