What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a healthy and delicious dog bakery that specializes in birthday cakes and treats for dogs.
Tell us about yourself
I started this business on a whim during the Covid lockdown. I was bored, and it was my dog’s birthday, so I decided to make her a cake. I posted it online, and my friends started asking if I could make one for their dog as well. I posted the cakes to Etsy, and the rest is history. I love that during the crazy, tumultuous time that was Covid, I was able to bring a little joy to people and their pets. I love seeing everyone’s pictures on social media of their dogs with my cakes. It makes me excited to get up every day and do what I do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is being able to keep going when things get tough or I’m super swamped and stressed about getting everything done. I just power through and when I’m done, I look back, and I’m proud of myself that I can accomplish so much by myself.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Time management. I run this company out of my one-bedroom apartment by myself (with the occasional help of friends and family). Sometimes, I have so many orders that I’m working 14-hour days on a near-consistent basis. There’s only so much time in the day, but I love what I do, so it’s all worth it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Starting and running a business is harder than I ever imagined, a constant struggle but the most rewarding experience. I love being my own boss and having a successful business that started as just a dream.
