Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Blake McDonald, owner of 2M Beef, located in Hallsville, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Emily and I are the owners of 2M Beef. Welcome you to join them on their journey to provide families with safe, locally-raised, quality beef. Our meat is available in individual cuts, boxes or bundles, and a quarter, half, and whole beef packages. The beef is processed in a USDA inspected facility, vacuum packed, and frozen before being boxed and shipped.

Tell us about yourself

Growing up in Sullivan, MO, me and Emily are 4th and 2nd generation beef producers. We are both involved in 4-H, served as officers at the local and area levels of FFA, and showed cattle. After high school, I was involved in meat and livestock judging teams at the University of Missouri. I majored in Animal Sciences with an Ag Economics minor and later obtained an MS in Ruminant Nutrition. Emily took a different path and earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree at St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

We tied the knot in September 2019. I currently manage an Angus and SimAngus cowherd for Dr. Gary and Norma Allee in Boone County, MO. I remain involved in our family's cattle operation alongside my dad and brother. Emily works as a community pharmacist. Our small business has stemmed from our hard work, knowledge, and passion for beef. Together, we will provide quality beef from our pastures to your tables.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to provide local communities a source of locally-raised, quality beef.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Since this is a side hustle for us, one of the hardest things being a business owner is prioritizing tasks while in the office, on the farm, and at our day jobs.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Ask questions and network, work hard, and continue to learn every day!
