Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kerry Taylor, owner and founder of 212 Health and Performance, located in Rumford, RI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have an extensive experience in fitness, personal athletics, training, and coaching. I was captain of most of my high school and collegiate football, basketball, and track teams, including the National Football Championship winners from UMASS Amherst in 1999. After my collegiate career, I continued to play NFL football with the New England Patriots and Detroit Lions. I continued my professional experience in both the XFL and AFL before retiring into my passion for training and coaching.
I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, an AOS certified instructor, and the Speed and Conditioning Director in the state of RI. I trained athletes of all sports and am currently a high school football coach on top of owning 212 Health & Performance. I was the head trainer for a large gym chain for five years before deciding to pursue my dreams and train using techniques that are not only proven effective but that I believe in.
I've been a guest speaker for various groups and events and continue to travel as a motivational speaker. I am a father of two amazing kids, Adrionna and Declan, who I adore. I believe everyone has greatness inside them, and they just need a little encouragement to let it out! Turn it up to 212 degrees and make things happen!
Tell us about yourself
I wanted to start my business because I wanted to help more people be successful in life through health and fitness. The people around me motivate me daily to get up and do what I have the opportunity to do every day! My two kids also play a huge role in motivating me, as I want them to know they can achieve anything they want in this life if they aren't afraid to work hard for it!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of my biggest accomplishments that happened more recently is making it through Covid with my team. I have an amazing team; we all worked hard together to be here, changing more lives today! Very fortunate and lucky!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is everything. Lol. There are so many different levels and aspects of being a small business owner that you tackle and wear a new and different hat every day! Trying to always find what the right balance is for you and your life while always taking others into consideration.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do your homework and talk to people in the industry you are thinking of going into.
- Surround yourself with good people.
- It's not always about you.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Whatever it is you are thinking about doing in business, go for it. You never know what could happen.
